When the sky turns to ash and the day’s bitter black,
Lord give me the courage of Alvin the cat.
Give me endurance to find my way home
Though I’m lost and I wander deeply hurt and alone.
Give me the faith to know I’ll survive
If I make a small effort to just stay alive.
Give me Your strength when all strength is past
To make my way through each deadly morass.
Give me new hope when hope is all gone
Though I stumble and falter and cannot go on.
Through a day damp with raindrops and no aftermath,
Lord give me persistence like a gray alley cat’s.
